The Progressive Center of Texas

Our community classroom series offers a combination of education, community organizing, and activism.

These are not lectures. Each speaker expects to engage in discussion and active dialogue. We encourage networking, creative thinking, collaboration, and future action.

You are also encouraged to organize an event to be held at The Progressive Center on a topic of interest to you, join a task force on a particular issue, and help mentor our young leaders. The price to reserve our space for forums, parties, and private organization meetings is negotiable, but starts at $50.00. Free parking and wi-fi is included. Our space is available most days and evenings except for Friday & Saturday evenings.

We encourage you to ride DART Bus and Rail to our events: either the Red or Blue line to the Cedars Station, which is just down the street from South Side on Lamar.

Take a look at some of our previous events

A Free legal clinic on “Advanced Directives” such as Medical Power of Attorney and Living Wills.

Several “Green the Block” events on this last “National Day of Service” for 2009 with weatherization assistance, tools and education on how to “Be Green” in a truly sustainable fashion.

Claudia Fowler Saturday morning events covering public education, HIV/AIDS, drug policies, and education vs. incarceration.

Our first forum on poverty on May 6 sparked active debate and plans for more public awareness and education.

Our initiative on ecology started with a report from the Sierra Club.

A style show benefit put on by MKLinks Models for The Afiya Center, a new HIV prevention and reproductive justice organization.
